Bio
Jake Warren was born in 1991 in Bellingham, Washington and with his camera he continues to blur the line between life and art. In 2002 his family moved to Alexandria, Virginia and bought their first digital camera to document their life and travels; from Maine to New York to Florida and a road trip across the country on their return home to Washington state in 2004.
These adventures ignited Jake’s passion for cameras, curiosity of culture, and traveling. After high-school Jake immigrated to Vancouver, Canada, to study filmmaking at Vancouver Film School. His final project film, which he produced and assistant directed for Canadian Writer + Director Leigh O’Neill, was accepted in the Short Film Corner of the 65th Cannes Film Festival; an honour given to only 10% of films submitted worldwide.
After attending Cannes Jake quickly found a home on film sets around Vancouver in the Props Department where he has amassed an impressive roster of credits on projects such as Deadpool 2, Supergirl, Riverdale, Antlers, Disney’s Noelle and the CBC series Strange Empire.
In-between props projects Jake pursued commercial client work and personal projects through his production company Finestrino Film Co. which he co-owned and operated with Brian Russell. Their commercial and personal projects would send Jake across continents and oceans; from Vancouver to Mexico and Seattle to Sweden. These travels shaped Jake’s unique cinematic snapshot style which reflects his desire to capture life unfolding in front of the lens while maintaining intentional staging and rich lighting.
Clients across a wide range of industries have sought Jake because of this cinematic approach to storytelling. His obsessive eye for rich lighting and deep staging pairs well with his documentary approach to observing life in front of the lens. He’s captured images for Shell Oil, Jade Tailor of the Sci-Fi series The Magicians, Teradek, NYA-EVO Backpacks, TBailey Construction, Canadian film director/producer/author John Pozer, the Shxw'ōwhámél first nation, Vancouver music producer Andy Schichter and touring musician Zach Kleisinger, emerging indie filmmaker Tammy Tsang, Workhaus Coworking, The Recruitment Flex Podcast, and representatives of various Canadian Governments.
In the spring of 2020 Jake was diagnosed with Stage II Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and underwent 6 rounds of Chemotherapy before entering remission. This close brush with death inspired Jake to retire from his props work, move to Calgary, and focus on his own photography and storytelling.
He currently resides in Calgary, Alberta with his partner Chantel. Together they co-host the Pair of Dinks Podcast and look after their 2 cats, Honey & Luna.
